Erik Asla is a norwegian photographer living in LA. He started working as photo assistant to celebrated photographer Herb Ritts. That became his breakthrough, together they took pictures of people like Bill Clinton, Madonna and Brad Pitt. When Ritts died in 2002, Erik started on his own career. He now works with Hollywood stars such as Gwyneth Paltrow and he does fashion and beauty campaigns. In addition to advertising and commercial work, his editorial images have been published in American and international magazines such as ELLE, Costume, Marie-Claire, Vogue, The New York Times Magazine and Vanity Fair.
These are the photos picked as my favorites. I really like his beauty pictures, they are gorgeous. The way he captures the models eyes, makes you just wanna know their story. Its like there’s a history in the pictures.

In class we have an assignment to crate a moodboard. We’re going to pick a muse, artist, architect and one quality that we will use as inspiration to develop the moodboard.
Muse: Patti Smith (Patricia Lee Smith) is an american singer, songwriter, and poet. She is a highly influential figure in popular music, especially punk and rock. As one of the important female icons she is called ¨the godmother of punk¨.
Artist: Robert Mapplethorpe (1949 – 1989) was an american photographer, most known for his black and white portraits. He has taken portraits of people like Patti Smith and Deborah Harry.
Architect: Le Corbusier (1887 – 1965) was a swiss-french architect, designer, urban planner and painter. His career spanned five decades, with his buildings constructed throughout Europe, India, and America. He also designed furnitures.
Quality: Honesty is my chosen quality yet I think. Because I think both Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe shows a lot of honesty about who they are, and about their personal style through the pictures. So I’m going to try work with that as inspiration to my moodboard.
